The Pre-cancelled Author

My book was attacked before it was published, not for its content but for a one-line description of it, which some activists construed as transphobic, even as the book and I are not.

My own statement, clarifying the nature of my book and my own identity, was ignored by activists and press in favor of quotes from online debates that misrepresent me, my book, and my sexuality.

This prompted online attacks, a petition for my book’s cancellation, calls to my workplace to question my employment, and accusations of transphobia; a fake promotional site was created to misrepresent my book & attack it; my achievements were removed from Wikipedia & misrepresentations about me & my work made there instead.

These attacks are especially regrettable as those fighting for sexual and gender equality should be natural allies; to fight among ourselves only serves those who would oppress us all.
